Encourage Customers to Promote your Business

There is no more powerful sales tool than a satisfied customer telling family, friends and associates about why your business is the right choice. When this happens on its own, it is called “spreading the word” but when it happens as part of a sales plan, it is known as “viral marketing”.

Most small businesses, especially those on limited budgets, tend to be very selective as to whom they give their promotional products. Often, one item is brought out from under the counter and slipped to a customer in an almost secretive fashion. In fact, most small businesses only budget one gift per customer – at best!

But, imagine the potential impact on your business if you gave each of your satisfied customers two, three, four or more of your promotional items. And what if you asked them to pass these along to their family and friends with your compliments? I don’t know how many of your staff are devoted to finding new customers – but however many, this marketing approach will expand your sales force many times over!!

This isn’t just COMDA trying to sell more products. This is advice that comes from many of our own customers who tells us how they promote their businesses through aggressive use of promotional gifts. One of the key strategies we have heard of is, “Don’t just give them to your customers. Also give them to the customers of your competitors!”
